Real awakes in a medical facility in Romdeau and seem to be fully recovered. Spending no time dilly-dallying she grabs some scalpels and make for the exit. After desperately trying to avoid beng detected (not knowing that Daedalus has watched her the entire time through the security cameras) she finally gets cornered and narrowly escapes into an opening elevator. Awaiting her at the end of the ride is the nursery where Daedalus surprises her. He tells Real about the nursery and how they create the ‘perfect’ citizen and even though she already knew about it, seeing it in real life is different and creeps her out.
Afterwards they go to see Iggy and Daedalus tells Real he severed Iggy from the surveilance network and don’t have to worry about what she says. Daedalus then proceeds to tell her the truth about Proxy’s origin and how its genes could be the salvation of mankind. While they are discussing they suddenly get attacked by cogito infected auto-reives and we see Real falling to the ground, bleeding profusely.
Vincent and his companions have no better luck in the outside world and everyone is showing signs of heavy fatigue after travelling for only a few days. Living in the outside world seem to have really weakened the people from the commune and soon they begin dropping like flies, leaving only Vincent and Pino to continue the journey on their own. When Vincent realizes he is the only human left and gets really depressed. His thoughts wanders unwantingly to Real and how he’ll never be able to see her again.
The episode ends with Daedalus filling out a death certificate for Real.
Wow, talk about an heavy episode! The atmosphere they managed to create with the scenes from the outside world gave me shivers down my spine. Vincent really should keep his eyes open a bit more because it makes him look so much less like a wimp. Seeing him steering the boat through the enormous wasteland of nothingness with his grim gaze was pretty awesome.
I can’t wait for the next episode, I mean it’s just cruel making us wait another week with an ending like that! There’s no way she really could’ve died, right? Right..? One thing I found peculiar was when Daedalus was filling out the death certificate was how it looked like it said Re-l instead of Real until they zoomed in very close, only then did the ‘A’ become legible. Maybe they’re toying with the fansubbers obvious problem to accept her name as Real since Re-l is closer to Lil than Real? Or not.
Still very odd in my opinion.
The one thing that lowered this episode a little bit was the pretty weak character animation. Atleast they managed to get the closeups on Real’s eyes right which is almost the most important thing when it comes to the animation.. ^^
