Summary:
Yano has become distant to Nanami since they had the meat buns in the end of the last episode and while she reflects on this her friends notices a ring that Nana bought for herself, pointing out that it is pretty sad to buy yourself a ring. Nanami is completely oblivious to this and before she can give it any more thought their attention is drawn to the classroom where someone accidently ruined a piece of decor for their play. Yano offers to help but get told off by Yamamoto, who think he’s only at slacking off and only pretend to be helpful. Nanami feels she have to defend him and says he finishes what needs to be done.
Later she meets Yano in the corridors and he pretty much ignores her when she tries to apologise for defending him. He ends up telling her she doesn’t need to be so protective of him, and when she says she really think he’s doing his best he just insists that she should not do such things. Nanami apologizes again before running of with tears in her eyes.
The next day Yano has somehow perfected his lines impressing everyone after being far from convincing the day before. When the time for the play arrives he has managed to forget all his lines again but with some encouragement from Nanami he enters the stage anyway and manages to fool the audience by improvising, turning the whole play into a comedy.
After the play Yano finds Nanami and before she knows it they are talking like normal again. Yano jokingly utters the word a priest would say when getting married after fixing her broken ring and in the spur of the moment Nanami says she accepts. Yano is embarrassed for a bit before saying he loves her and they end up kissing.
Thoughts:
Great episode! It managed to evoke some real emotions from me. When Yano told Nanami that she shouldn’t be so protective I felt genuinely sorry for her, at how vurnerable she was at that moment, and it was alot thanks to her seeiyu. She has a this magical way of sounding uncertain and just fits the role of Nanami perfectly. I heard from somewhere I can’t remember that this is her debut which makes it all the more impressive.
I really like the fact that they kissed so early in the show so we won’t have to suffer through ~26 or so episodes(although Bokura ga Ita feels like a 13 episodes show so far) of the two leads chasing each other in circles. This will leave lots of episodes for their actualy relationship to develop which to me is the interesting part. Here’s hoping for another KareKano! Even though I think Yano tries way to hard to act cool it was nice to see him fazed and embarrassed by Nanami’s words. It made him alot more likeable too me.

I’m glad we didn’t have to suffer through pointless episodes, either! I just hope Yano won’t relapse into a jerk again since that’ll get old really quick, and she doesn’t deserve to be treated that way. I think he tries to act cool because he doesn’t want to reveal his vulnerabilities, whatever they may be, but Nanami doesn’t care about all that – all she wants in exchange for her heart is his love and honesty. That’s not too much to ask.
