Ever since the first episode of Lovely Complex aired I’ve anxiously been waiting for a subbed version to come out so I could get my shoujo fix. Now that there is one (thank you Kiss-Sub!) did Lovely Complex stack up to my expectations? Oh you bet it did! At first I had some worries that there would alot of references that I would miss because the characters all speak Kansai-ben but turns out they were unfounded. In fact I was laughing the episode through and especially the torpedo firing scene had me literally laughing out loud.
One major thing I like about many shoujo anime/manga is the attention to detail when it comes to clothing and Lovely Complex is not lacking on this front. All the characters had new outfits where appropriate which really help give an autentic atmosphere. I can only hope they keep it up. The animation in general was pretty simple, with lots of comedic distortions, but it served it’s purpose with no obvious kinks.
If the next episode will have me laughing as much as the first then I’ll have to go ahead and call this one a winner. I don’t know about the manga but I hope it will keep its light mood as a change from the Bokura ga Ita angst fest.
Oh, lawd. Lovely Complex is now animated? Nice. I enjoy the manga. It is one of those shojo manga that I can reread every now and then.
I wouldn’t say that the manga is one of my fave books but the chapters always give me a smile on my face and a whole bunch of laughter. And even with the occassional mild angst part.
